Polar Plunge

The London Housing Registry is proud to host it’s first Polar Bear Plunge! This spectacular event will take place on March 25, 2017 at 12:00 pm noon at Port Stanley Little Beach. Registration fee is just $15.oo and minimum pledge donations is just $100. Free transportation from London to Port Stanley (and back to London!) courtesy of Murphy Bus Lines, and there will also be a post event party at Joe Kool’s in London! for more information, call Shelley at (519) 434-3344!

Position Description: The London Housing Registry has been a part of London for over 32 years, and part of our success is the strong commitment and loyalty of our volunteers. We are not only serving the chronic and episodic part of the homeless population but anyone who are experiencing a housing crisis.

Our volunteers are the stars of our programs, without them, we will never thrive. We will never reach three decades of community services, helping the most vulnerable segment of our community.

We are looking for the next star, a person who is passionate and dedicated. A person who is searching for meaningful volunteer opportunities. And finally, a person who has a genuine interest in helping others particularly those who are in housing crisis.

The Information Technology Support Worker main responsibility is to maintain our network and making sure our computers are ready to run so that we can serve our clients efficiently.

Details of Job Description:
• Maintain and monitor the London Housing Registry (WD Sentinel small office storage server) network and its peripheral equipment
• Provide technical support, training/instruction for internal staff on workstation; hardware and software, and peripheral equipment
• Monitor interconnecting and interoperability of network equipment, workstations, peripheral equipment and workstation/server software
• Monitor, evaluate and document network utilization and performance
• Identify, document, and resolve network operating problems
• Install, configure and maintain network infrastructure and equipment
• Evaluate and resolve workstation, user, and communications issues
• Evaluate and define user/system needs
• Plan, implement and manage electronic file organization, workstation and server configuration, individual and group structure
• Plan for network security and setup implementation considerations
• Research resolutions for client support requests
• Communicate security concerns, issues, and possible resolutions
• Network cost-benefit planning and justification
• Technical network considerations
• Monitor maintenance agreements, warranties, and software licensing
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience Required:
• Experience or certified in independent installing/upgrading and configuring LAN network including client hardware and software systems, database programming knowledge
• Knowledge of Workstation configuration
• Advanced knowledge of Network Fundamentals
• Working Knowledge of Information Technology trends capabilities and terminology
• Ability to monitor and troubleshoot LAN network and infrastructure and equipment
• Experience in backing-up local network server directory files and folders
• Excellent Writing and computer skills (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Advanced knowledge and experience in database programming techniques, concepts and methodologies

The Social Media/Blogger (Youth – 16 to 25) write short articles for our website blog page. The volunteer ‘s main responsibility is to maintain and increase our social media presence.

Details of Job Description:
• Write articles (200 words or less) about housing related topics weekly
• Post weekly articles to London Housing Registry web-site
• Create a quarterly newsletter and develop an electronic mailing list
• Promote the weekly blog posts using London Housing Registry social media accounts
• Create promotional materials about LHR that can use in social media
• Write short messages with links and photos to LHR social media accounts
• Maintain social media statistics (analytics) and report to Executive Director
• Research current social media trends and applications for possible usage
• Assists with current fundraising effort using social media
• Assists with the promotion of educational workshops using social media
• Update Bulletin Boards at reception and Resource Centre
• Develop, create and maintain a social media activity calendar
• Archive the London Housing Registry articles, old and current
• Create new promotional display materials for off-site outreach
• Create posters, flyers, and promotional materials for events if needed

Skills and Experience Required:
• Understanding of online “search” and its impact on social media content
• Currently publishing a personal blog or another form of digital content and or have interest in developing a blog
• Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Education in Communication, Business or English and/or related work and personal experiences dealing with blogging and social media
• Willingness to learn the homeless issues, housing barriers and housing related legislation
• Knowledge of income support for low-income individuals and families (OW, ODSP, etc.)
• Knowledge of relevant copyright and trademark legislation
• Proficiency in MS Office (MSWord, Publisher, PowerPoint) and Prezi
• Have experience with relevant technology & reporting tools (e.g. Twitter Insights, Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, and or 3rd party social media apps)
• Experience working across social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest
• Basic Photo and Video editing (resizing, adding watermarks or bumpers, etc)

Required Qualifications/Training: Completed Secondary School Diploma; University or College education preferred but not a prerequisite.

Skills Preferred: Courses in journalism, public relation or marketing; social media expertise, web-site content experience, and/or related work and personal blogging experience.

The Landlord Recruiter’s main responsibility is to research private landlord, property management companies, and homeowners and recruit them to be part of our rental database.

The goal is to clearly explain the need for their assistance in helping those in a housing crisis and at the same time getting benefits from our services, by prescreening potential tenants and getting exposure to enhance their corporate social responsibility in our community.

Details of Job Description:
• Research current rental listing posted online that meets our rental price range
• Write all the pertinent information needed in recruitment
• Contact prospective landlord, property management company and homeowners using prepared landlord recruiting script
• Input all the necessary information from the outcome of the initiated recruitment
• Update spreadsheet of recruited landlords
• Update the London Housing Registry Resource Centre with current on-line listings
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience Required:
• Post-secondary education in Communication, Business, Human Resources, Marketing and/or relevant work experience
• Experience and knowledge of membership, recruitment or telemarketing
• Knowledge of homeless issues, sensitivity to housing barriers for high-risk population
• Highly organized, computer and database skills, self-directed, work cooperatively with staff and community partners

The London Housing Registry held its annual fundraising event at McGinnis Landing restaurant on Monday September 12th, 2016. The London Housing Registry has been assisting low-income families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless in the City of London since 1984. The Registry lists vacant units with local property management companies and landlords, and matches families and individuals based on their needs.
