I have been volunteering at the London Housing Registry for half a year now! LHR cares about the development of its volunteers by giving incredible support and feedbacks. I was hired as an intake/outreach worker conducting client intakes and landlord recruitments. Because English is not my first language and I’m not very familiar with the Canadian working environment, I got very nervous when conducting client intakes and making phone calls. The senior volunteers made me feel comfortable by showcasing and shadowing me through the process. They always say positive things to make me feel more confident and patiently pointing out the field that I need to improve.

Now I have become a senior volunteer and am able to use the same way to train new volunteers to help them ace their work in the organization. I have just finished my volunteer evaluation and they have taken my interest in gaining experience in social media marketing into consideration to offer me more responsibilities in that area.

If you ask me what motivates me to keep volunteering for this organization, I would definitely say the culture. We celebrate almost every major holidays including Easter, Halloween, Christmas etc. by decorating the office, having potluck parties, and playing all kinds of interesting games. Everyone here knows each other well and it feels like we are a family because we support each other. I will definitely recommend you to volunteer for the London Housing Registry whether you are planning to gain some skills, build your resume, give back to society, help people in housing crisis, or simply, have fun! – Carol Tian, February 2017
